Gloomy Wood Amenities
Gloomy
Wood was designed to give the Alton Towers Guest everything
they could need, these included; the Something Sinister gift
shop, Wicked Things food and drink stall, Toilets and Telephone.

The
original gravestone, the haunted houses signature. It stood
from 1992 to 2002 before being replaced with the open crypt
and zombie when the ride changed over to Duel in 2003.

Rest
Station
Originally
called 'Wicked Things', with the addition of 'Ice Screams'
in 1992 then 'Witches Kitchen' this is the rest station
for Gloomy Wood and its inhabitants. This changed to
'Zombie Bites' in 2003 'Fish and Chips', in 2006 briefly
not named during the 2007 season, later to be called;'Waffles
and Ices' by late 2007.

On
one of the original plans for the haunted house it was
proposed that the toilets would be built under tower of
the facade of the haunted house ride. These plans were
changed and the toilets were replanned behind the Something
Sinister gift shop.

Note
the writing showing the basement loos, mothers facilities
and disabled toilets in the tower and side of house.

This
plan shows the two pathways to the toilet area.

The
plan was changed to remove the pathway and a new toilet
block was added behind the shop.

The
new toilet plan, note that the ladies and gents toilets
are opposite to how they are now.

Originally
the gift shop was called ‘Something Sinister’
this again was changed to ‘Spooks R Us’ when
the ride became Duel in 2003 At this point the new frontage
was added and a new ramp was added for disabled riders.

At
the exit of Gloomy wood stands Gloomy Wood Sweets and
Drinks Kiosk.
|
|

|
|
|
|
This
sign is missed by most people. It is attached to the side
of the Telephone Kiosk in Gloomy Wood. A National Heritage
sign stating that Arthur Trotter confidence trickster
didn't really live here. Continuing the humorous theme
seen on the gravestones in the graveyard.

Here
lies Tyrone, died of shock whist on the phone.
Found
near the toilets in Gloomy Wood
Although
the shelter remains sadly the phone and back board have
now been removed.
