Duel Portraits

The new duel portraits have had an Alton Towers Magical makeover.

It wasn't until recently that I have pieced together the origins of the new portraits. My theory is this; when Alton Towers needed to replace the old portraits they didn't have time to commission all new images. So they purchased several off the shelf American portraits and gave them a magical makeover to give them that individuality. They even used the same pictures three of four times. Have a look below and see what you think.

Portrait's 1 and 9 are a real give away; take a look.

I am always on the look out for new photos of Duel especially any that show the portraits, has you can tell some of the pictures I have had to use are poor in quality, if you have any pictures of the portraits that I could use on this site please contact me through the credits page.

Howling Harry original American Portrait This is Howling Harry after his Alton Towers magical makeover. If you look carefully the brim of his top hat can be seen in his hair line This picture is given a coat of crackle glaze to give the image an aged appearance.

Terrible Terry original. Terrible Terry is glazed over to age this picture he is also missing his animal style mouth.
Portrait 4 Portrait 4
Terrible Terry original. Terrible Terry has been used again but this time he looks more human than hog like.
Portrait 5 Portrait 5
No Name This is the only one that I can't match with its portrait so it may not be a match. This one is hard to see because of it situation in the ride. It shown what looks like a Arabian man with a jeweled head dress.
Portrait 6 Portrait 6
Deadly Dan original. Alton Towers art department really went to town on this one it bears little resemblance to the original Deadly Dan but if you look closely the mouth is in the same position along with the eye line and hair area.
Portrait 7 Portrait 7
Deadly Dan original. This one is used in the ride station entrance and matches the shape and inclination of the head. A big make over.
Portrait 8 Portrait 8
This one is found in the drawing room and matches the image to the left, minus the fur and ears.
Portrait 9 Portrait 9
Rotten Randy Original American Portrait This is the one that gives it away. If you look very closely at this version of Rotten Randy taken from Duel you can still make out his hand that has been covered over but unfortunately it has bled through because of the crackle glaze compound. The image has also been cut down to fit in the small frame so the character looks oversized.

Horrible Hannah Original Horrible Hannah is made more feminine in this magical makeover. This portrait hangs above where the hand in the bell jar once sat in the drawing room.
